How to Prepare for your Dog Photography Session
There are countless reasons why people choose to schedule a photography session for their dog. For some, it’s about capturing the precious moments as their dog enjoys its golden years, preserving memories that will last a lifetime. Others may want to celebrate a special milestone in their journey together. Perhaps you prefer to have a puppy session so you can cherish those fleeting moments of their playful youth. Whatever the reason, a photography session with your dog promises to be a joyful and memorable experience for both of you.
What to do before your dog photography session:
Make sure your dog is bathed and/or groomed a few days before your session. Feel free to bring a brush on the day of your session so we can do a quick brush through before photos.
Hold off on feeding your dog’s dinner until after your session. Your dog will be much more interested in posing for treats when they do not have a full stomach!
If time allows, try to arrive at the shoot 15 minutes early and allow your dog to simply walk around and sniff. Sniffing not only acts as a decompression exercise, but if your dog is allowed to sniff around and investigate prior to your session they will also be less distracted by lingering sights and smells while trying to take photos.
My dog walks on a harness, is that okay?
Absolutely! It is totally fine if your dog is in their harness in between taking photos. I will ask that the harness is removed while we are actively taking photos and swapped with either a flat collar or a slip lead. I cannot guarantee a perfect removal of a harness in your photos.
What to bring:
What to expect at your dog photography session:
Because dogs will be dogs, don’t expect anything besides having fun! Your dog will have the opportunity to run, jump, swim, play and pose to create a gallery filled with variety that you will be sure to love for a lifetime.
